Some days, the studio is so full of love and life that it feels like the place is going to burst. This was one of those days.
Mr. Q’s big sister was so sweet and gentle with her brother, and even a little hesitant about getting too close. She has the makings of a great protective big sister. I had the privilege of shooting her as a newborn as well. It’s so amazing to walk with a family year after year, not just watching the children grow, but capturing each precious stage. I can genuinely say that being a Chicago newborn photographer is such an honor and a delight.
His aunt is a very gifted fiber artist, and she created the beautiful handcrafted hat and booties. In keeping with the theme of their maternity/family session (see here), Mom wanted simple, elegant texture and minimal color, to truly capture the children as they are now. As you can see, we were so fortunate to have such willing models – everybody was making their best faces, and really giving us so much to work with. We chose to do some simple wrapping and, as you’l see, we laid him in one of my favorite beds, a reclaimed barn wood basket in the shape of a nest. I’m a professional, I do this every day, but those last two images melt my heart every time I look at them.
